Bring the Cornish Coast Home with Five Evocative New Artworks

Coastal-inspired art studio Beach House Art is celebrating the emotional connection we have with our favourite places in a new collection capturing five much-loved Cornish beaches.

Created by Cornish-artist Holly Cecilia Smith, the expressive sea and landscape paintings capture fleeting moments of colour and movement along the Cornish coast.

Painted on location throughout different times of day, each piece in the five-strong collection is influenced by fleeting moments of light, weather and movement as they happen, capturing the atmosphere rather than simply recording a view.

The result is five incredibly evocative pieces that bring the wildness and unpredictability of the coastline to any home.

Holly said: “I don’t particularly want someone to look at one of my paintings and understand exactly what I was thinking. I’d rather leave a little space for them.

“So much of making the work is really just practising paying attention, noticing how somewhere changes, returning to it, looking again. If living with one of my paintings makes someone pause occasionally and do a little of that too, I think I’d be very happy.”

The collection is about more than celebrating Cornwall. It reflects a wider approach to decorating our homes with art that has a personal connection – choosing pieces because they remind us of a place, person or moment rather than simply because they complement the sofa.

The pieces are the newest additions to Beach House Art’s expansive collection of coastal art, which is inspired by everything from seaside hobbies including surfing and sailing to the oystercatchers scouring the coast for shellfish and the shells and seaweed found washed upon the shore.

Sarah Weare, Co-Founder of Beach House Art, said: “The art we choose for our homes can be incredibly personal. A picture of somewhere you know and love can instantly transport you back there. Whether that’s a beach you visited every summer as a child, something you discovered on holiday or simply a place where you feel completely at ease.

“We love the idea that artwork can do more than fill a blank wall. It can bring a little piece of somewhere special into your everyday life.”

Holly Cecilia Smith’s collection showcasing Porthmeor, Sennen Cove, Trevaunance Cove, Porthtowan and Porthleven beaches is available now, with prices starting at £42.

Beach House Art’s wider coastal collections are priced from £18.
