Trending colour palettes: How to inject Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2023 (and Pantone’s autumn colour predictions) into your interiors

As Dulux announces its Colour of the Year and Pantone shares it trend predictions for Autumn/Winter 2022, interior experts from leading online home furnishing retailers have revealed how to get the look in your home with some quick and easy colour updates.

Dulux’s 20th annual colour of the year for 2023 is Wild Wonder – a warming mix of green and mustard yellow that is said to be ‘inspired by tones of harvested crops and an upbeat glow which connects us with the cycles of life’. Ideal for adding warmth and light into your home – this neutral base is a accompanied by four complimentary colour palettes featuring forest hues, bright neutrals, earthy browns and beiges and sea-inspired tones.

Whilst Pantone has also looked to nature and the season’s earthy hues for its Autumn/Winter palette, it has also injected some fun and energy with light-infused pastels and invigorating brights.

Here interior experts from The Rug Seller, Arighi Bianchi and Shabby share their top furniture and accessory picks to help homeowners inject this years’ trending colours into their interiors.

Wild Wonder Coloured Rugs

Daniel Prendergast from The Rug Seller: “The beauty of Dulux’s Wild Wonder is that it’s such a versatile colour and it can be used at scale without it overpowering a room. Mustard yellow and gold hues have been gaining in popularity throughout the year and Dulux’s prediction will give this palette even more momentum. A large area rug in this colour palette works particularly well as it helps to bring warmth into the room from the floor upwards. Look for pieces with texture, pattern and complementary tones to help keep your space interesting and add in accessories in pinks, greens and terracottas to seamlessly pull this look together.”

Lucy Mather, interiors expert at Arighi Bianchi: “Don’t be afraid to go big and bold with rich warm coloured furniture to complement Wild Wonder walls.

“Yellow and golds both warm up this new neutral backdrop – and sofas and footstalls can really make a statement in your living space in brighter accent shades. Alternatively, you can easily start to layer in this colour with smaller accessories, such as cushions and throws, adding hints of yellow to your existing interiors.”

Furniture and accessories inspired by Pantone’s Autumn/Winter colour trend predictions:

Beth Pickford, from Shabby.co.uk, said: “Whilst Pantone has also opted for a nature-inspired colour palette with its Autumn/Winter trend predictions, it has also injected some uplifting brights and fun pastel hues into the mix that really tap into the mood of the nation and our growing love for colourful interiors.

“Pieces in this palette will also work extremely well against a Wild Wonder or neutral inspired backdrop and give homeowners plenty of opportunity to be playful with colour – whether that’s through statement pieces or smaller accessories. The key here really is not to be afraid to take things a bit bolder – and have fun with it.”
